Lunar New Year

my red handbag...(thanks sis :P)

These are the things that made me think of the Lunar New Year. Looking forward to meet people from here and there. Exchange of gossips and latest updates.
I was like a kid on Xmas morning yesterday, after the photo shoots. But something happened that plummeted my Chinese New Year spirits. Shall not go into that yearly , boring, routine. What I want to write is just about filial duties.

The gathering of one family on the eve of Chinese New Year's dinner is a major event that should not be missed. So....everybody should do their very best in making themselves available for this event. Yeah..so what's the big deal? It's only a meal like every other meal one would question.

To me, that event represent family unity and closeness. WE are all very busy (can't say for me though ) most of the days throughout the entire year, BUT...that is the one day that we could all be together, if everyone made the effort to be there.

It meant a great deal to my parents, even though they might not give us the 'Death by not showing up' note. But I can see the sparkles in their eyes whenever all my siblings made it to the dinner table.

Think of all the sacrifices our parents had made. Think of all the heartaches we've caused them (especially by yours truly here ). Think of all the tears we've made them shed, not to mentioned the countless time they went on sleepless nights worried about the things we do or might do.
SO..I don't think making it on time for ONE frikin dinner is too much to ask for.

Here's to many more good family gatherings and good times reminiscing the good ol' days.
Happy Chinese New Year to all and see you guys in a few days time. :D

Nothing Better To do.

It just dawned on me that I seems to be doing a lot of things lately because I have nothing better to do. I post up pictures after pictures of food which are just ordinary, BECAUSE I have nothing better to do. I watch silly movies and laugh my socks off, BECAUSE I got nothing better to do.
Hmmmmmm...so what's better out there for me to do really, I dunno.

This entry was put up also BECAUSE I have nothing better to do.
Gheeez...I need to get me a job man. This is damn depressing.

I need more projects.....

Chicken Rice, Kids love.

Made these for lunch today. The kids simply love this. Maybe it's the fried chicken, maybe it's the fragrant rice, I dunno...but when it's chicken rice day, everybody just want second helpings.
Over the years I've tried cooking chicken rice and it's not as easy as it looked. Sometimes my rice goes way too soggy, and that's a big NO NO for chicken rice. So the trick is, use little water. That way, if your rice is too dry, you can always sprinkle some water and cook it again. Too little water can be rectify, but too much water...your chicken rice is a gonner :(

I get the chicken fats from around the chicky backside area.
Sometime I collect these from chickens that I used for other dishes.

keep the fried onions and oil aside.

Peel some ginger and give it a smack.

when the button goes up indicating rice are cooked

add the fried onions and oil.
salt and msg to taste. It's ok if you ain't got no chicken stock, you can use water or in my case, I used my left over chicken herbal soup. Careful not to simply use any left over soup :P

Press the 'cook' button again on the rice cooker.

Long beans Omelette (kacang goreng telor)

This is yet another simple dish that goes well with ayam tempra or wine ginger chicken. If you tell me you cannot cook this, then I would suggest you go to the nearest wall and bang your head against it REALLY HARD!!! mwahahahahaha!

Ayam Tempra (picture recipe)

Was surfing for this dish, just to check out how others are cooking it like;
What Ze fuk!!! They sure do have a lot more ingredients in there than I do. Why?? Why??? Simplicity at it's best, here's my style of chicken tempra. One of the dishes that my mommy used to cook for us. Yep..used to, used to...sighhhh I want to stay with mommy again so I don't have to cook everyday :(

This is a simple yet delicious dish, great with rice.

Ayam Tempra

when the onions and chillies are slightly golden, add the marinated chicken

cook over medium heat for maybe 30 minutes (I never time my dishes, as long as they looked cooked to me..heck, that's done then :P ) add a bit of water if you like gravy. Salt & msg to taste. And to those who's gonna go tsk! tsk! tsk! over me using msg, well you can go to hell. If u wanna be healthy, go eat hospital food!!!

Spaghetti and Meat Balls (picture recipe)

See the pictures above you? Well..you would have thought there's quite a lot of work involves in making that from scratch. It's not that hard actually.
I just want to clear a few things to people before they get the wrong picture.
I am not..I repeat...NOT a good cook. I have never attended any of those professional cooking classes and never will I think. For I would rather die than be made to follow strict instructions when I'm cooking. Cooking is supposed to be FUN. You should only cook when you're happy or make believe that you're happy.
I cook to feed those kids of mine. Which I sometime bribe as well with my cooking. Can't stand to have strict methods and fine art of calculation in my kitchen. I need to cook fast for the kitchen is a hot area, and I am a HOT stuff as it is, so we don't need to get me hotter than usual.
Generally, I will go through my cupboard and see what's available. Try to pull something from what I've got in hand. Only when I am left with nothing, do I make those trips to the market or groceries shop.
Which is why, people find it easy to follow my unconventional recipe. Almost everything is a throw and stir thingy. No need to get the weighing scale or special poking devices.
Cooking is actually quite easy, but cook books and chefs have made it so complicated that people got confuse before the even started cooking. All those fancy smancy words that they use certainly are not helping. Next came the ingredients, some of it..again are fancy words used. It's like some kinda show off to tell the world 'hey, I'm smart and cultured. Bah!
By the time I get through a recipe from a cook book, my head would be all clogged up that all I wanna do is dial for pizza hut. Phffffff!
Which is why I decide to simplify cooking. I'm not in the financial state where I can afford too much take outs.
So anyone out there who wants to give cooking a try, please..give yourself a chance. Most of the stuff I cook here is still edible even though you screwed up the recipe. Mwahahaha!
Gonna share with you guys this recipe of Spaghetti and meat balls.
Kids love this, great ammunition to get my son do a week of house chores. :D

How to make Meat Balls;

You don't have to buy bread crumbs from box, you can just smack a slice of bread in a toaster and pound that toast to smitterin. Voila you got yourself breadcrumbs.

How to make spaghetti sauce;

add these into the garlic and onions, saute for like 5 minutes.

If you're just too darn lazy to chop onions blah blah blah...you can opt to use those bottled pasta sauce available at the supermarket. However, they can cost quite a bit. Add herbs such as oregano or basil to the sauce.

Bitchin Time

So..I have been quite good at maneuvering my ass in and out of that cramped coffee shop. Who say big people cannot be flexible? I can make my toes touched the back of my head...blek!

Made rendang kerang yesterday for my sis and some customer just knew it when there's something different going on. There's few people who bugged the living daylight of us, they consist of penny pinching, always the winner type. They think living in this world is nothing but a major competition of 'how many times can I out best people'. Every time this guy order his nasi lemak, he will come back for second round and asks for 'ikan bilis' lebih, nasi lebih, etc etc...
Yesterday, I came prepared. First the older brother ordered nasi lemak with everything on, rendang kerang, fried chicken.....the younger brother was waiting behind, eyes scanning over the array of goodies we got. I told him to hold on to his knickers. Knew he was scheming behind, thinking 'what can I screw more from her today?'

Sent the plate of special nasi lemak to his brother and the dude requested for extra plate and spoon. Emmm...one nasi lemak and 2 plates. Then, the younger chap was playing fiddle with fried chicken, can't seems to make up his mind which is the BIGGEST piece of fried chicken. After getting all the knick knack for him, he finally threw his freebies request, 'tambah nasi' . I had no where to place the extra rice but on top of the ikan bilis. I'm charging him for all the extras today, I thought in my little heart. A good thing he didn't complain about the no show of ikan bilis. When food was delivered to the table, their mother requested for ANOTHER frikin plate and spoon.

Aha! I get it now, get extra portion of this and that, so they can share the meals without paying double. After all, we don't charge extra for utensils. Bah! Bloody cheapos!!!! Looked like it runs in the family. Sorry to say this, but even their mother is in the game, so how to blame the over grown 30ish kids. Tsk tsk!

Stopped over at Tesco to get our groceries and my sis was telling me about another bunch of cheapos. Mother and son team again, scrounging around the fruit aisle. They were eating mandarin oranges happily and feeling mighty happy they got freebies at the expense of tesco of course. Not that I'm TESCO's company man, but just frikin hate it when people do that. Best of all, those who do these things aren't the poor ones. They are just brought up poorly I supposed. And what's with those people peeling garlic's peel at the offer bin. How much can you actually save by discarding those garlic peel?
